ACTION PLAN FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024
- To encourage the active engagement of both faculty members and students in Seminars, Trainings, and Workshops organized by the institute as well as other higher educational institutes, governmental agencies and local organizations.
- To promote collaborations with external Institutions with the aim of improving students' knowledge and skills.
- To motivate faculty members to enhance their research output by publishing research papers, and applying for research projects under various Government of India schemes, and also to encourage the Research & Academic Innovation Committee to accomplish at least one publication within the academic year.
- To promote extension activities such as outreach programs, faculty exchange, awareness campaigns, and social events that will have a positive impact on the community through the college's various departments, committees, and clubs in order to cultivate a greater sense of social responsibility among students.
- To organize more skill development programmes for the students.
- To promote student involvement in both academic and extracurricular pursuits at local, state, and national levels.
- To create better cooperation between faculty and parents for the welfare of students.
- To strengthen the infrastructure of the institute to accommodate the students and their academic needs.
- To prepare for the Academic and Administrative Audit (AAA) as well as the third cycle of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) assessment.
The Institutional Strategic Perspective plan is effectively deployed.
At the commencement of the new academic year, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) devised a strategic plan aimed at enhancing the institution's overall performance. In alignment with this initiative, the Institute organized a total of 27 seminars and workshops on various topics. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Government Kolasib College and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kolasibwhich aims to facilitate the effective exchange of pertinent ideas and enhancing the skills and knowledge of students at GKC. Another MoU was signed between the Department of Physics, Government Kolasib College and the Department of Physics, Government Zirtiri Residential Science College, focusing on joint efforts in the areas of teaching, research development and consultancy. The Kolasib Forest Division, under the EF&CC Department of the Government of Mizoram, has partnered with the Department of Zoology and appointed Mr. Christopher J.Z. Lawlor as a consultant since 2022 to oversee the Asia Waterbird Census (2022-2024) and the Ground-truthing of Mizoram Wetlands (2024). Faculty members presented research papers or served as resource persons at various seminars and discussion programs at the international, national and state levels on 34 occasions. Additionally, faculty members published a total of seven research papers. The Mizo Department produced two publications: "HlaPhuahThiam R.L. Kamlala Kristian HlateThlirZauna" and "Hla Phuah Thiam C. DurthangaHlateZirChianna." Mr. Christopher J.Z. Lawlor from the Department of Zoology authored a book titled "Waterbirds of Kolasib (A Photographic Guide to the Waterbirds of Kolasib District, Mizoram, India)," while Dr. N. Malsawmtluangi released a work entitled "Universe (Mizo Tawngin)." The Research and Academic Innovation Cell has also submitted a manuscript to publishers for publication.
The institution effectively organized a total of 54 extension and outreach programs directed towards students during the specified reporting timeframe. In response to the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP2020), a Skill Enhancement Course has been incorporated into the academic curriculum. Additionally, the college facilitated a series of skill development training sessions and workshops in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Kolasib. Students engaged actively in various inter-college competitions at both the state and district levels, as well as participating in numerous academic events hosted by the college and other educational bodies. Each academic department conducted Parents-Teachers Meetings, and a dedicated WhatsApp group was created for parents corresponding to each subject for every semester. This platform serves to consistently disseminate relevant information, assessment records, and student attendance, thereby fostering effective communication. The science laboratories have been renovated, and several classrooms have been expanded to accommodate growing needs. Furthermore, new desks and benches have been constructed for both indoor and outdoor use. The Academic and Administrative Audit (AAA) was successfully conducted on November 17, 2023, and preparations for the third cycle of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) are currently in progress.
