BEST PRACTICES SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED BY THE INSTITUTION DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-2022

BEST PRACTICE -I

Title of the Practice: Green Initiatives

Objectives:     

  1. To educate the students on the importance of conserving the environment.
  2. To promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the campus. 
  3. Green landscaping the college campus

The Context: In the face of global warming and the multitude of environmental issues we face today, it is imperative to raise a new sustainable generation who understands the importance of conservation and becomes a vocal advocate for the environment, further educating their families and friends.

The Practice: The college has undertaken variety of activities to help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources. Awareness Campaigns on various environment-related issues such as harmful effects of firecrackers, single use plastics, the importance of biodiversity etc. are conducted by the Eco Club in collaboration with the IQAC. Important environment days are observed. Cleanliness drive and tree plantations are regularly carried out by the Eco club and NSS unit of the college not only within the college but in various parts of Kolasib town. The College is steadily working towards adopting eco-friendly practices such as recycling, using renewable energy sources, and reducing waste. Recognizing the significance of community involvement in environmental conservation, the college has made collaborative efforts with local NGOs, environmental clubs, and government agencies for tree plantation drives, clean-up campaigns, and awareness workshops.

Evidence of Success: Students are increasingly conscious aboutenvironmental sustainability and hence enthusiastically participate in tree plantation drives, clean-up campaigns, and awareness workshops. The institution is awarded District Green Champion for successful implementation of Swachhta Action Plan. 

Problems Encountered and Resources Required: Financial and time constraints remain the biggest problem for green initiatives especially bigger projects. Also, Covid-19 pandemic restricted many activities. 

 

BEST PRACTICE -II

Title of the Practice: Outreach Programs

Objectives:     

  1. To bring about positive change in the community. 
  2. To foster a sense of social responsibility among students.
  3. To encourage and provide opportunities to students to put into practice their knowledge and talents for the benefit of the Society.                        

The context: As an institution committed to the betterment of the society, the College is actively rendering services to the community in several ways and means It also endeavors to sensitize students towards their duties and responsibilities within the society and community. The college through its student body and facultyaims to build strong relationship between the community and the institution to enhance both students’ growth and the common good. 

The practice:   The College has four (4) very active and successful NSS units guided by young and enthusiastic Program Officers, and along with student-volunteers they undertake many yeoman activities in the local society. The N.S.S organized special camping at adopted villages and collaborated with Village Council leaders and the local community to construct and/or renovate public water points, waiting sheds and public bathrooms and urinals. Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and Eco Clubof the collegealsoactively collaborates with the NSS in organizing blood donation camps, tree plantation and cleanliness drives. Department of Mathematics also organized Mathematics Summer camp for high school students in and around Kolasib to raise awareness and interest in the subject and develop students' reasoning skills. The College also runs an Add-on course on Computer Concepts (CCC) to impart a basic level IT Literacy program for anyone who is willing to learn.

Evidence of Success: An important outcome of outreach programs identified by the majority of the students is an increased sense of social responsibility. It also gives students experiential opportunities to learn in real world contexts and develop skills of community engagement. Students of the college are not only givers but through the community activities they also reap benefits as engagement in such activities leads to academic and personal development.The community also gains something from these activities, thus making it two-way learning process.

 

 

Problems Encountered and Resources Required

The pandemic disrupted several interactions with the community. Limited financial resources are also an impediment to carry out extension activities.
